Olbram Zoubek

* 21. april 1926

Zoubek graduated from the Academy of Art Architecture & Design in 1945. He was a member of the TRASA group (since 1959) and the NEW GROUP (founding member in 1987). In his enormous body of work he focuses on art sculptures – cement, tin and bronze. He likes to polychrome or gold-plate his objects. A special note needs to be mentioned about his work because it has become part of modern Czech history. It is the death-mask of Jan Palach, who self-immolated by burning himself in protest against the Russian led invasion in 1968. Later he made the Memorial to the Victims of Communism and the gravestone of the presidents Havel´s family. Olbram Zoubek lives and works in Prague and Litomyšl.
